Aging with developmental disabilities is a relatively new phenomenon. In 1930 the average life expectancy was 19. Today the same folks are living about as long as general population. As the community of persons with developmental disabilities begins to age at the same rate as the “unimpaired” population, their housing needs have changed dramatically.
ANIBIC is working closely with OPWDD to develop a new paradigm that will serve the most fragile and vulnerable seniors with developmental disabilities, while being sensitive to the environment and the community at large. As a relatively small portion of the Iris Hill property is developed, ANIBIC pledges to plant two trees to replace any that must be removed, and to be particularly sensitive to any mature trees which may be endangered. |
